Housing

The brainchild of year-round resident, Matthew Skolnikoff, ICDC began in the 1990s by fundraising for and building three homes on the island. These homes are used as affordable rentals to help new families get established on the island. In step with the pending Comprehensive Plan for Isle au Haut, ICDC is creating new homes for potential families, and refurbishing others to ensure that the island’s “affordable” housing stock is not only affordable to rent, but also affordable to run.

In thirty years of running an affordable housing program, many people have entered the community through the door of ICDC. 45 individuals have lived in ICDC homes since the beginning of the affordable housing program, and 20 of them still live on the island.
