Bryn Montoya & Michael Delchamp, Island Store Manager

Our island has a small store that is packed with just about everything you might need- from gasoline for your truck to fresh fish for your dinner; a beer or chocolate milk, or make that almond milk, or perhaps locally grown vegetables and fresh bread. And if you don’t see it, just ask. The Island Store is there to serve the community. To manage the store requires the skill to be responsive to the community served and all those diverse eating needs! With Bryn and Mike, we have a hard working duo – who have jumped in to run the store.

Bryn and Mike left their jobs in two different cities (a baker and a college administrator) and selected Downeast Maine as a good spot for their future. Both are avid hikers, so they knew there was much to explore. During their first long winter, they responded to an ad in the local paper for Remote Island Store Manager.

They arrived to start work  at the start of summer season. It was all in. For months, they didn’t even take a hike on the island, except to walk from their home to work. But through it all they have stayed up beat, juggling our phone calls, emails and in store chat requests for special orders. Fresh ginger, gallons of vanilla ice cream.

Once they cleared the Summer rush, we all pulled out our island maps to show them our favorite hikes.
